Section 01

Moscone power.

The venues that matter when you're working Moscone. Walkable, impressive, and operationally reliable for business entertaining.

⚠️ Walkability note

SOMA and FiDi are walkable for daytime business. For evenings, default to Uber Black for client transport — particularly anything west of 5th Street. Quick walks between Moscone and the W or St. Regis are fine. Cross-town to Hayes Valley or Western Addition: always car.

Mourad
Modern Moroccan

Mourad

SOMA · New Montgomery

One Michelin star. 1.5 blocks from Moscone. Stunning high-ceilinged room. The most efficient high-end business dinner in the city.

Michelin ⭐ Boardroom: 12–20 Acoustics: Refined Walkable
The Family Style Roast Chicken is the move for a table of 4. Fast, impressive, and adjacent to the W and St. Regis.
Kokkari
Greek

Kokkari Estiatorio

Financial District

The definitive San Francisco power lunch. Fireplace roasting lamb, busy bar, deep booths. Where the VCs and founders actually eat.

Hestia Room: 20 Acoustics: Bustling Power Spot
Impossible to book less than 4 weeks out. If you get a table here, your client knows you have pull.
Boulevard
SF Institution

Boulevard

Embarcadero

Nancy Oakes' masterpiece in the Audiffred Building. Belle Époque design, views of the Bay Bridge. It defines "San Francisco Classic" and never misses.

Wine Vault: 12–64 Acoustics: Buzzing Bridge Views
Trends come and go; Boulevard is forever. The service team are lifers who can read a room. The safe bet that feels special.
Wayfare Tavern
American Tavern

Wayfare Tavern

Financial District

Tyler Florence's tavern with 3 private floors. Fried chicken is legendary. The quintessential "business casual" dinner spot.

3 Rooms: 14–50 Acoustics: Managed FiDi
The private floors are legitimately private. Great for larger groups who need to talk business without shouting.

Section 02

Fine dining.

When the stakes justify the spend. SF's temples of fine dining — world-class but require advance planning.

Benu
Fine Dining

Benu

SoMa

Three Michelin stars. Corey Lee's Asian-influenced tasting menu. PDR seats 12–16. The faux shark fin soup is legendary.

Michelin ⭐⭐⭐ PDR: 12–16 Acoustics: Refined
Book 8–10 weeks. This is SF's temple of fine dining. Near Moscone but feels a world away.
Quince
Fine Dining

Quince

Jackson Square

Three Michelin stars. Michael Tusk's Italian-inflected tasting menu. Salon seats 10–18. Own farm in Marin supplies the kitchen.

Michelin ⭐⭐⭐ Salon: 10–18 Acoustics: Intimate
The salon is truly private. 6–8 weeks lead time. This is where serious food people want to eat.
Birdsong
Fine Dining

Birdsong

SoMa

Two Michelin stars. Live-fire California cuisine. Chef's table seats 6–12. Wood-fired everything with precision.

Michelin ⭐⭐ Chef's Table: 6–12 Acoustics: Intimate
The smaller PDR creates real intimacy. Walking distance to Moscone. Book 6–8 weeks.

Section 03

SF classics.

Institutions that defined California cuisine. They've earned their legendary status and remain operationally excellent.

Zuni Café
California Institution

Zuni Café

Hayes Valley

The roast chicken that launched a thousand imitations. Mezzanine seats 20. Judy Rodgers' legacy lives on. An SF institution since 1979.

Mezzanine: 20 Acoustics: High Energy Hayes Valley
Acoustics note Iconic energy, but surfaces are hard and the room is loud. Best for lunch, risky for quiet dinner conversations. Take a car — Hayes Valley is car territory.
State Bird
Dim Sum Service

State Bird Provisions

Western Addition

One Michelin star. American dim sum service. PDR for 16–20. The quail is mandatory.

Michelin ⭐ Semi-Private: 16–20 Acoustics: Bustling
The dim sum format works great for groups — sharing creates conversation. Book 3–4 weeks.

Section 04

Getting around SF.

The practical layer. Transport, neighborhoods, and timing for the most important conference weeks.

🚖 Transport

  • SFO to Moscone: 25–45 min, $50–70 Uber
  • Oakland (OAK) to Moscone: 30–50 min, $45–65 Uber
  • BART: Works for SFO → Powell St (Moscone-adjacent)
  • Uber Black: Recommended for client transport across town
  • For evening Hayes Valley travel: car, not foot

📍 Neighborhood Intel

  • SOMA / Moscone: Convention hub, W, St. Regis, Mourad
  • Financial District: Kokkari, Wayfare, corporate SF
  • Embarcadero: Boulevard, Ferry Building, waterfront
  • Jackson Square: Quince, Cotogna, historic charm
  • Hayes Valley: Zuni, Rich Table (use Uber to get there)

⏰ Timing

  • Dreamforce (Sept): Book 10+ weeks out, everything
  • RSA (Feb / Mar): Same, hotels 3x normal price
  • JP Morgan Healthcare (Jan): Impossible. Plan months ahead.
  • Standard dinner reservation time: 7–7:30pm
  • Fog: Year-round. Layers always.

Beyond the guide

Need someone to actually book it?

This guide is the public layer. When the event itself is high-stakes — a board dinner, an investor offsite, a client weekend during Dreamforce — Clandestine produces it end-to-end. 14 years, zero reputational incidents.
